My family recently restored a windmill that was originally used to pump water. The height is 40 feet. The blades are 4 foot each with an 8 foot diameter. The motor was bought by this company: http://www.aermotorwindmill.com/ and that is exactly how it works (in the moving diagram).
Right now the windmill is used for decoration and does nothing other than have the shaft at the bottom of the motor move up and down.
How can I make this work for us and reduce our electric bill? What will it consist of? Approximately how much will the improvements cost in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area do you think?

Oh gosh where do I start? My older sister (48 years old) has been living with me for about 7 months. She had this mid-life crisis of some sort and decided to move. To accomadate her, I moved into a bigger apt. I was thinking that she would get over her mid-life crisis and become a productive member of society; self sufficient; since she has been doing that up until 7 months ago. She did find a job but it doesn’t pay much. She barely gives me $200 a month, which does nothing but make up the difference from my old rent. Their is still food to buy, water bill, electricity, etc.
I really want to help her, but it doesn’t seem that she wants to help herself. I feel as though she reverted back into being a kid and expects me to take care of her like I do with my two girls. She doesn’t know how to manage her money. She sees me keeping my appearance up, for instance, me getting my hair and nails done. She’ll want to do the same thing but she can’t afford it making her being unbearable to be around. Every once and awhile she’ll go get her nails done but then she runs out of money to buy her much needed diabetes medication.
I swear she is like my 3rd child. She’ll even ask me to make her doctors appt. Sometimes I think that my own kids will grow up, move out and she will still be living with me. How do I get rid of this canker sore of a sister? I tried to be tactful, but that just caused her to get depressed and go into this thing that nobody loves her.

Happy Earth Day!! Make it a goal to turn off those extra lights, unplug unused electricity cords and buy a cloth grocery sack. Most importantly, don’t litter! Have a great Earth Day!

We just bought this house a few months ago and we had to pay a connection fee but after that they have only charged us $4.90 a month, any idea why it might be doing that? What should I do?
We are going through hard times right now and we could REALLY use the extra cash, but I am worried about what might happen if I do not report this to them.
I’m not talking about never paying them back but if we could get away with just not having to stress over paying this bill until after the holidays when we are on our feet a little better it would be really great for us.

Ok, I’m leaving for Ireland in a couple of days and I’m taking a laptop with a charger that fits into a normal US outlet. It says the output is 18.5 volts and the imput is 100-240 volts on the charger and it has three prongs instead of just two. I bought one converter for use with normal two prong cables to charge my phone, ipod, and camera batteries and then I also bought an additional adapter plug with surge protection that’s safe for computers. My question is this. The adapter that’s safe for computers is just an adapter, but it says on the package “you will need a converter or transformer for your single voltage appliances.” What does that mean exactly? I only have a two prong converter, not a three. Do I need a three or can I plug the computer directly into the adapter? I’m so confused.

I am from the Philippines and I am kind of alarmed by this one.
Recently, there has been frequent blackouts in our place. Unfortunately, everytime this happens, I am using my computer… browsing the net, sometimes games, movies..
My question is, how does that affect my computer? Does it have serious effects or something? I really want to know because I might consider buying an Uninterrupted Power Supply for this if I would know it is that dangerous.
Thanks in advance.

I’m not running a lot of appliances at the time or anything. I’m just doing the wash and then all of a sudden the stackable washer/dryer just dies.
So I go to the fuse box, flip the switch, and it turns back on.
It happened about a month ago and then twice tonight. Right now I’m not switching it back on; I’m going to call an electrician tomorrow.
But I was just wondering what would cause this to happen.
A couple of weeks ago I lost half the lights in my house after I ran a space heater for about 20 minutes. It was plugged in a different room from the washer. Again, I flipped the switches and everything came back on (but I haven’t used the space heater since).
I’ve lived here for eight years and nothing like this has ever happened.
The background is that this is an 83-year-old house; when I bought it I was told that it was re-wired back in the late ’80s, some 20 years ago.
