How does it lessen pollution and help the environment if _I_ live a “carbon free life” while rich politicians buy my “carbon offset credits” and keep on driving Hummers, flying in their private 747’s, riding around in stretch limos, using megawatt hours of electricity, etc.
How does that help the ’cause’?

I bought two “energy saving” heaters to re-place the base board heaters in my apartment, but they keep flipping my breaker when I have them both on. I would use only one at a time, but while I’m in my room, I like to have one on while I’m in there, and then have the other one in the living room so it can warm up for when I go out there later.
Should I use my baseboard heaters instead? Do they really suck up more energy? If so, why don’t they flip my breakers when in use?

I’m not running a lot of appliances at the time or anything. I’m just doing the wash and then all of a sudden the stackable washer/dryer just dies.
So I go to the fuse box, flip the switch, and it turns back on.
It happened about a month ago and then twice tonight. Right now I’m not switching it back on; I’m going to call an electrician tomorrow.
But I was just wondering what would cause this to happen.
A couple of weeks ago I lost half the lights in my house after I ran a space heater for about 20 minutes. It was plugged in a different room from the washer. Again, I flipped the switches and everything came back on (but I haven’t used the space heater since).
I’ve lived here for eight years and nothing like this has ever happened.
The background is that this is an 83-year-old house; when I bought it I was told that it was re-wired back in the late ’80s, some 20 years ago.

I live in a one bedroom apartment. There are high wall vents for heating and air-conditioning-two in living room, one in dining room, one long one in hallway facing living/dining area, and one in each bathroom and bedroom.is the closure lever that flips up/down enough to save energy costs,or do I need to buy magnetic cover? Or does closing one just force the air to the other vents? Thanks

Politicians here in England are threatening to raise taxes again this time on Air travel.
Now what do they want efficient mass transit or us all in cars.
They pollution spin is robbing us all.
I am not saying cars and planes don’t pollute, but the figures are grossly out of proportion.
65% of green house gasses and 80% of pollution comes from generating electricity.
These same power plants could be run on greener fuels which in the long run would be cheaper to produce.
Don’t people realise is takes nearly a kilo of coal to power a 100 watt light bulb for just 2 hours.
Cars only contribute 8% YES that’s 8% of the worlds pollution aircraft produce just over 4% .
commercial shipping produce 9% Trains and ocean cargo ships, leaving 9% for small industry.
70% comes from current ineffective inefficient wasteful power production.
Most of the worlds oil and coal a whopping 80% goes to the production of electricity.
Not that we should live with out electricity.
