We live in rural Alabama and I know that I have to purchase a “pine”pole and a breaker box . I went to a home improvement store to buy the box and I was told that I have to buy a ten foot metal pole to have it connected to a mobile home. I think they may be trying to make me purchase unnecessary items. I have not seen any metal poles on any other mobile homes. Can someone please tell me what I will need to provide for the electrician to do the job? I realize that I could rely on the electrician to provide all the necessary items but I think that he or she may charge much more for them . I would like to get the best price possible since I am working with very limited funds. Safety is of the utmost importance because this will house my child and 4 grandchildren. Thanks!

Get a couple of estimates from electricians, for labor only. Decide on which estimate you’ll go with, and have him, or her, give you a list of materials they will need.

you are right!! you do not need that metal pole as those are for regular buildings.. a mobile homes walls are not strong enough for those metal poles.. you need to put a small telephone type post next to the home, it should be five feet deep!! you also need the breaker box,, and wire.. the wire should be underground wire or placed inside a conduit… do not forget the ground lead and a long grounding pole !!!
