Can You Rewire A House From Using Natural Gas To Using Electricity?

I live in the Southeast and have always lived in homes with electric heat. My husband and I are considering buying a home with very high ceilings, and the house also uses natural gas. I am concerned about the higher cost of gas heating in compare to electric heating. Is it possible to switch your energy source? How much would it cost and would it be worthwhile?

yes it can be done and if you want to do this i would recommend a heat pump….depending on the quality of the work done on your original duct system you could probably switch it out for about 1700 to 2000 dollars a ton for a heat pump…. a three ton heat pump installed including wiring, duct work and unit should be around 6000 dollars…..the money saved over the years from having a more efficient unit installed would make it worth while….

Gas heating is usually cheaper than electric heating here in the southwest.
However, if the house is a total electric house (in our area), the cost of heating is cheaper if the house is well insulated, and you don’t waste.
Gas heating is more comfortable, usually not requiring a humidifier like electric heat. But with the changing earthly circumstances, future generations may only have electric heat available by grid. So, if you are thinking of heirs getting the house, keep that in mind.

you can replace your furnace with a steffes electric heat storage furnace it has bricks inside thaqt hold the heat and it is wired for use with off peak.
expensive to install everything . I installed small steffe’s room heaters less expensive
the off peak i get is half priced electric during the night .
heat is turned off at 8am comes on at 8pm its stored up in the bricks all day . am saving $100 + a month in winter over gas that is when gas prices were low.
