Yes we know that Africa is very big and some parts are very developed, but we also tend to think most of those places like in South Africa were made for and by white people during aparteid.
But generally, you can’t really blame people for thinking the way they do, not when many parts of Africa are so lawless, we hear all the time about the Somalia pirates and the savagery of the killings of both Africans, formerly whites, and now the Chinese.
Then you have all that poverty in many parts of Africa. Yes we’ve seen places where people still live in huts, where girls are married and bear children at such a young age that it ruins their insides so they leak urine all time yet have no means of getting to a doctor so live their lives in shame.
We’ve seen places where AIDS runs rampant, etc., etc.
There’s so much more that puts Africa near the dark ages when compared to the world that lack of electricity seems the least of the concerns…
plus even now the Chinese have to put basic infrastructure in certains regions for Africa, such as building railroads and putting up electrical lines.
To sum it all up, all that does not add up to a developed nation(s). And many wonder if Africa could ever get things accomplished without outside help.

some people don’t use their brains. its so ridiculous how ignorant some people are lol. i’m originally from Nigeria and some people still think that we all live in huts and hunt for our food. or we’re all dying from aids and starvation *sigh*
its like people just accept what they are fed by the media and don’t question

unfortunately yes people need to see Africa as primitive My own family likes making jokes about me going to Africa to live in the bush. I don’t know why people won’t expand their knowledge

yeah, it’s crazy. probably because the media only ever shows the impoverished parts of Africa, never the cities

Yeah, it’s stupid, isn’t it. Like, I watched this documentary on Sierra Leone, where they were showing stuff like dirty rivers and mud huts and dirty streets and half naked children, but when I go there (my parents are from there) you see people living like kings! Have people there to clean the floors, cut the grass, cook, pretty much anything. You never see that on television. Why? Because the media doesn’t want you to. They want people to have this perception of Africa as poor and undeveloped. Yeah, I can say that some places aren’t as developed as places like Japan or China, but it’s not all about being dirt poor.

hahaha don’t tell them they would be suprised when africa develops. really I don’t want ppl to know now, let them still think of children begging for food lol, haha Africa is already there.
Edit: brigit u heard of the word “gibberish” that’s what u ranting about. u guys never thing positive of others or who told u no teengae pregnacy in developed world|? or poor hospital facilities? common the media wouldn’t tell u we don’t pay everything as taxes in africa i.e road, car,TV,internet…

Wow, that woman was ignorant and probably a teensy bit racist.
CNN and BBC aren’t trying to fool people, it’s just that all of the stories worth reporting deal with the lower classes around the world, which then translates incorrectly to viewers…. it’s a shame, really.
I’ve heard that they make the best jerky :) I like South Africans, and I really want to visit Africa… I was a little sad this year when our school trip to Tanzania was canceled (because of the events happening in Kenya at the time…)
