I have a 2.5 ton tempstar air conditioner for a 1400 sq. foot home. No shade what so ever. Only me and my wife live in the home. The home is a new construction bought last year. I live in Nashville, TN so it does get pretty humid here. If I keep my air conditioner set at 73 degrees all month keeping in mind that it will run most of the day expect for maybe shutting off a few times at night about how much would my electric bill be? Don’t have to be exact, just getting an average amount based on what I’ve just said. I hear it’s cheaper to run it longer any way than to have it cycle on and off every few mins. like some slightly oversized units. Thanks.
Math is the problem here not know the KWH the system use in one hour. I’ll make a guess maybe it will help.
If you look at your electric bill it will tell you how much you are charged for a KW hour, This is the price you pay for each KWH of elcetricity you use. Say your billed 6 cents for each kw.
your sytem use 8kw per hour and it runs all day long non stop. in 30 days you will use
8×24=192kwh per day and a total of 30×192=5760kwh per mounth
Now 5760 KWH X .06 = $345.60 in this example
Hope this helps
our top bill has never gone over $250…. we’re in Charlotte NC… 1700squft with about 400 not cooled….upstairs room….
just us 2, and we run ceiling fans and stay set at 74 most of the time… only chill it when I’m cooking for a crowd and they’re here….have a little late afternoon shade from the west… not much, tho and too late to really be of use…. our gas pack went in in ’95…
